Fundamentals of International Aviation (FoIA EN) - Security: Online
Goal
By the end of this course, learners will understand the foundational principles of aviation security, including threat assessment, screening procedures, and the application of international regulations such as within Annex 17. The course also examines various criminal acts targeting the aviation sector, including hijackings, bombings, smuggling, and human trafficking, and how the industry works to prevent and respond to these threats.
Course Description
This self-paced course is part of the Fundamentals of International Aviation Online Training Programme. Delivered in two (2) units, the course explores the essential strategies, frameworks, and regulatory standards used to protect passengers, crew, and aircraft from acts of unlawful interference. It provides a global overview of aviation security measures and threat management in the air transport system.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to:
- Discuss the content and application of ICAO’s Annex 17, Security: Safeguarding International Civil Aviation Against Acts of Unlawful Interference.
- Discuss the types of acts of unlawful interference and other criminal activities that may occur within the aviation industry, including bombings and hijackings, drug smuggling and human trafficking.

Primary Target Population
Primary target audience:
Aspiring aviation professionals, individuals transitioning into the aviation sector, Civil Aviation Authorities, airline operators, and other aviation industry stakeholders.
Secondary target audience:
Experienced aviation professionals, including those working with training organizations or as aviation consultants.
Certificate
The participant must achieve a score of 80% to pass the final exam. Note that participants are allowed a maximum of three (3) attempts only. Upon successfully completing the exam, the participant will receive ICAO’s e-Certificate.
