Aviation Sustainability – Security
Goal
This course aims to connect aviation security frameworks with sustainability principles. Learners will:
- Understand how the Global Aviation Security Plan (GASeP) supports global aviation sustainability.
- Identify technologies that advance or challenge sustainable security practices.
- Recognize the social impacts of security systems and their relationship to sustainability goals.
Course Description
This online course examines the intersection between aviation security and sustainability. Learners will explore how international frameworks, such as the Global Aviation Security Plan (GASeP), support secure, efficient, and socially responsible aviation systems. The course highlights how emerging technologies enhance or challenge security practices and considers the social implications of security measures on accessibility, privacy, and inclusion. Interactive examples demonstrate how effective security supports broader sustainability outcomes.
This course is included in the Aviation Sustainability online training programme and may also be taken individually. For a foundation in aviation sustainability concepts, learners are encouraged—but not required—to complete Aviation Sustainability: Introduction to Aviation Sustainability before beginning this course.

Evaluation and certification
- Final Exam: 80% Grade mark/ 3 attempts
- Upon successful completion of the exam, you will receive ICAO’s e-Certificate.
Primary Target Population
All aviation professionals seeking to develop a baseline understanding of sustainability as it applies to civil aviation, including airline, airport, and regulatory personnel, as well as professionals transitioning into aviation from other industries. No previous background or experience in sustainability is required.
Secondary Target Population
Students, educators, consultants, and support-service providers who wish to understand sustainability principles within aviation operations.
